Release: Immediate - An Energy East Company

CMP outages down to 39,000

AUGUSTA, Maine, April 6, 2007, 5:00  Central Maine Power Co. reported that power had been restored to 78,000 of 117,000 customer accounts of 5 p.m.

An army of almost 600 lineworkers, arborists, and field planners converged on hard hit York County, western Oxford County, and coastal towns to work throughout the day and into the evening. CMP crews from across the state were joined by crews from Maine Public Service, Bangor Hydro Electric, Boston-based N-Star, and private contractors as the company continued its recovery from the largest peak outage since the 1998 ice storms.

CMP expects to make continued progress throughout the evening, restoring power in most of Oxford County, in the Greater Portland area, and in coastal towns east of Warren. Work will continue throughout the night, however, the company warned that customers in York, Sagadahoc, and Lincoln counties who are still without power at dusk should prepare for a second night without electricity.

Following is a breakdown of outages by Service Center. Each Service Center includes the city or town listed and about a dozen surrounding communities. A map showing the service areas is available on the company's outage page on its website at www.cmpco.com.

Alfred - 18,500
Brunswick - 16,500
Portland - 3,400
