Release: Immediate - An Energy East Company

Power restoration continues overnight

AUGUSTA, Maine, April 5, 2007, 9:00 p.m. Central Maine Power Co. line crews continued efforts to restore power throughout the day. As of 9:00 p.m., the company reports that 80,725 customer accounts were still without power. The company estimates that the outages peaked at more than 117,000 customer accounts in the early afternoon.

By early evening, CMP crews had restored service to nearly 37,000 customers since the early afternoon peak. The company said some crews will need to rest overnight, but the restoration effort will continue through the night. They expect to restore service in most of the towns north of Augusta by late evening.

In the hardest hit areas of York County, western Oxford county, and along the coast as far east as Waldoboro, the company warns that many homes and businesses will be without service over night, and some customers in remote areas are likely to be without power until Saturday.
