CMP reports outages
AUGUSTA, Maine, April 5, 2007, 5:00 p.m. Central Maine Power Co. line crews continued efforts to restore power throughout the day. As of 5:00 p.m., the company estimates that 87,800 customer accounts were still without power.
The company began shifting crews from the northern portions of its service area to southern and coastal areas in early afternoon, because the storm did little damage in towns north and west of Augusta. CMP also received a promise of additional crews from N-Star, a utility from the greater Boston area, which will provide additional relief for CMP crews in the harder hit areas in York County, along the coast from Portland to Penobscot Bay, and in the Bridgton area.
However, CMP is alerting customers in those areas that many homes and businesses will be without service over night, and some customers in remote areas are likely to be without power until Saturday.
Following is a breakdown of outages by Service Center. Each Service Center includes the city or town listed and about a dozen surrounding communities. A map showing the service areas is available on the company's outage page on its website at www.cmpco.com.
Alfred - 33,000

Brunswick - 28,000

Fairfield - 40
Lewiston - 375
