Release: Immediate - An Energy East Company
CMP set to energize new Dover-Foxcroft power line
Cut-over to new line will require power outage early April 1
AUGUSTA, Maine, March 28, 2007 Central Maine Power Company customers in Dover-Foxcroft, Sangerville, Guilford, and Garland will get more reliable service beginning in April, when the utility energizes a new transmission line serving the area. But first, CMP must disrupt service to a large area from Parkman to Tomhegan Township early the morning of Sunday, April 1 so the cut-over to the new line can be performed safely.
"We need to interrupt power throughout the area Sunday morning so we can put this line into service safely," says CMP spokesman John Carroll. "A team of about 30 people will be working through the night on the remote transmission right-of-way and at nearby substations to make sure the transition goes smoothly."
An estimated 9,745 customers will be without service beginning just after midnight on Sunday. Power is expected to be restored by 6 a.m.
"This new transmission line will be more reliable, and it has more capacity than the old line. It should improve service to homes and businesses in Dover-Foxcroft and surrounding communities," adds Carroll. "We have also installed fault-detection equipment on the line, so if theres a problem, we can find it more quickly to get it fixed. That's an important feature for lines that run through remote wooded rights of way like this one."
CMP began building the line in the fall of 2006 and invested approximately $1.8 million in this project. This year, CMP expects to invest more than $120 million in its system.
Customers in the following towns will be affected by the April 1 outage:
- Dover, Foxcroft, Guilford, Abbot, Monson, Blanchard, Willimantic, Elliotsville, Shirley, Greenville, and towns and townships north of Greenville on both sides of Moosehead Lake: All streets and roads.
- Sangerville: All roads except Silvers Mills Road and side roads off it, Dexter - Parkman Road (also known as Goff Road), part of the North Dexter Rd., Sampson Road, Fernanders Road, and Frenchs Mill Road.
