CMP to energize improved power line in York County
Cut-over to new line will require power outage early March 31
AUGUSTA, Maine, March 28, 2007 Central Maine Power Company will interrupt service to an estimated 8,400 customer accounts in Berwick, North Berwick, South Berwick, Lebanon, Eliot, and York early the morning of Saturday, March 31, to energize a section of transmission line that was recently upgraded to improve service to the area.
"We need to interrupt power in the area Saturday morning so we can put this line into service safely," says CMP spokesman John Carroll. "A team of about a dozen CMP workers, along with contract personnel, will be working through the night on the transmission right-of-way and at our Quaker Hill and Bassett substations to make sure the transition goes smoothly."
An estimated 8,400 customers will be without service beginning just after midnight on Saturday. Power is expected to be restored by 8 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the work will be performed the following morning, Sunday, April 1.
"Residential and commercial growth in this area had stretched the existing transmission line almost to its limits," adds Carroll. "This more robust line will add capacity to our system and enable us to continue providing reliable service well into the future."
This year, CMP expects to invest more than $120 million in its system, which covers 11,000 square miles of territory in central and southern Maine.
