Release: Immediate - An Energy East Company

CMP delivery prices go down on March 1

AUGUSTA, Maine, March 1, 2007 Central Maine Power Co. customers begin paying less for electricity delivery today. The utility has lowered its electricity-delivery price by 1.42 percent effective March 1. For a typical customer who uses 550 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month, the new price translates to a savings of about 53 cents per month, or about $6.35 per year.

"We continue to uphold our long-standing commitment to our customers and the Maine Public Utilities Commission to keep our rates low and stable," says CMP President Sara Burns. "We hope our price decrease will help customers who have been struggling with higher costs for oil, natural gas, and electricity supply."

"We're proud to say that our electricity-delivery prices are about 30 percent lower today than they were in January of 2000," adds Burns. "We are using new technologies and better work processes to improve efficiency, while still providing the safe, reliable delivery service our customers rely on."
