CMP asks customers to clear a path to the meter
AUGUSTA, Maine, February 21, 2007 Recent snowfall from the Valentine's Day blizzard is making it difficult for Central Maine Power Co. meter readers to do their jobs. Winter snowfall can be troublesome for the 98 CMP employees who read an average of more than 29,000 electric meters each work day.
"Snow and ice crust can be especially difficult on the men and women who read electrical meters, and with more snow in the forecast, the problem could get worse," said CMP spokesman John Carroll. "We're asking customers to please take a few minutes and clear a path to your meter to make their jobs safer and a bit easier this winter."
Carroll adds that customers need not clear a path to the meter every time there is a storm. Instead, they can time the task to coincide with their meter read date.
"Your meter is read at about the same time each month," explains Carroll. "Customers can find their most recent meter read date on page one of their bill under the heading 'Customer Meter Summary.' The next read date will be about a month later, or you can figure your meter will be read again approximately three weeks after you receive your bill."
A typical meter reader visits 300 or more meters a day, according to Carroll.
"Anything you can do to clear a path to your meter will be greatly appreciated by our meter readers," he added.
